Centenary Set to Host USA Gymnastics Nationals, Watch All Sessions Live on Centenary All-Access

SHREVEPORT—Centenary College and USA Gymnastics are proud to host the 2008 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships this week in the Gold Dome on Centenary’s campus. The three-day event, featuring four sessions, will take place Thursday through Saturday and can be viewed in its entirety at www.GoCentenary.com.


Centenary serves as this year’s host and enters the meet as the third-ranked team. The Ladies will compete in Session II on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Other teams that will be participating along side Centenary in the second session include No.1 Texas Woman’s University, No.5 William & Mary, and No.7 Seattle Pacific.


The event gets under way on Thursday afternoon with Session I starting at 2 p.m. Competing teams in that session are No.2 Towson, No.4 Cornell, No.6 Air Force, and No.8 Temple.


Qualifying individuals that have advanced to the USAG championship event include all-arounders Justine Basley and Erika Pysh of Southern Connecticut State, Chelsea Binkley, Jennifer Sobuta, and Vicki Zanelli of Brown, Lorraine Galow and Stephanie Morgan of Bridgeport, and Colleen Sheehan of West Chester.


Individual event qualifiers are Ravin Iasiello (vault), Yvette Mirando (vault, beam, floor), Brandi Embri (bars), and Taylor Rut (beam) of Bridgeport as well as Sarah Darst (bars) and Brianna DiPinto (floor) of Southern Connecticut State.


The top two teams from each session will advance to the team finals on Friday at 7 p.m. The winner of Friday evening’s competition will be crowned as the 2008 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Champions. Towson returns to this year’s meet as the reigning champions, while Centenary last won the title in 2004.


Saturday’s individual finals will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will feature the top five individuals plus ties on each apparatus from each session of Thursday’s semi-final rounds. The winner on Saturday on each event will become the 2008 National Champion.


Meanwhile, all individuals performing in the all-around will compete with specified teams during Thursday’s sessions. The all-around champion will be determined after the second session on Thursday evening.
