SHREVEPORT—The Centenary softball team looks to get back on the winning track when it travels south down I-49 to take on rival Northwestern State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Ladies are 8-0 against fellow Louisiana schools this season.

Centenary (27-23) lost all three of its games last weekend against Summit League leader North Dakota State. However, the Ladies did pick up a mid-week victory over Alcorn State, 3-1.

Beth Krysiak led all Centenary players last week with a .444 batting average as she collected four hits in nine at bats. Allison Shepperd hit .385 last week with a homerun, three RBI, and two runs scored to raise her average on the season to a team-leading .350. She has also crept within one RBI of tying Lauren Flowers for the team lead at 32.

Centenary individuals are close to breaking several records for both single season and career success. Shepperd’s 14 doubles are second all-time in a season and she needs just three more to tie the top mark of 17. She is also just a few notches short of entering the top five in RBI, runs scored, hits, and total bases while already sitting in fourth in batting average.

Lauren Flowers is right on the door step of entering the top five for RBI in a season, but the senior already sits among the career leaders in homeruns, runs, hits, doubles, total bases, and walks.

In the pitching circle, Ryan Thacker can climb into the top five for wins in a season with her next victory. She currently has 15 wins on the year. Lauren Highsmith is near the top for saves in a season and a career, and Stacy Whitmer is making a move in the career strikeouts category.

Northwestern State (8-42) has struggled this season and has lost eight straight contests, including 13 of its last 14. The Lady Demons’ last win came on April 9th, a 5-4 triumph over Louisiana Tech.

NSU has managed just six homeruns on the year as a team, but the bigger problem has been with the pitching staff. The Lady Demons have a team earned run average of 7.33 and have allowed 379 runs on the season. In comparison, Centenary has blasted 26 long balls and has only allowed 184 runs for a team ERA of 3.12.

Northwestern State does hold the all-time advantage in the series, winning 54 of the 71 games between the two schools, including both meetings in 2007.
