Tough Night for Ladies Gymnastics

SHREVEPORT— The Centenary gymnastics team fought hard, but fell short to Southeast Missouri 192.775-191.100 at home on Friday night.

The night started well for the Ladies, as junior Courtney Hawkins won the vault with a score of 9.875, while classmate Alyssa Zawieja (9.700) finished sixth.

The uneven bars would conclude with a five-way tie for third place, which included senior Julia Cornelius and sophomore Marisa Schneider, both scoring a 9.650.

Schneider would strike big again, winning the beam with a score of 9.700, while classmate Kameron Turner (9.500) would go on to finish tied for sixth with SEMO’s Stina Sundgren.

On the floor the Ladies would place four in the top six. Schneider and freshman Melody Smith finished in a tie for third with a score of 9.775, while Hawkins and sophomore Whitney Daugherty finished just behind them tied for fifth with a 9.700.

In the all around, Schneider (38.475) and Zawieja (37.800) finished third and fourth respectively.

The Ladies will return to action on Sunday at 2 pm as they take on Pennsylvania and after which they will honor their departing seniors.
