Ladies Score Well, But Fall to LSU

SHREVEPORT – Sophomore Marissa Schneider scored a 38.350 on the all-around, which was good for third place, but the Centenary gymnastics team still fell to the sixth-ranked LSU Tigers on Friday night 196.650-192.400.


For the Ladies, Schneider finished in a tie for third on the floor exercise with a 9.850, while Lauren Carlton placed sixth with a 9.800. Centenary also had the ninth through 13th place finishers on floor.


Sophomore Alyssa Zawieja placed seventh on the vault with a score of 9.675, while five of her teammates finished directly behind her.


On bars, meanwhile, senior Julia Cornelius closed out her home career at Centenary as the Ladies top finisher on the bars with a 9.700. Finishing just .25 points behind Cornelius was her classmate Mandy Bennett, who placed in ninth.


Cornelius was also Centenary’s top finisher on the beam as well, placing sixth with a 9.755. Sophomore Kameron Turner (9.625), Carlton (9.525), sophomore Makensie Lant (9.500) and Schneider (9.450) all finished seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th respectively on beam.


The Ladies’ next action will be on March 21 at the Midwest Intercollegiate Conference Championship – hosted by Illinois State.
