Errors Cost Ladies Game

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary softball team’s offense scored seven runs, which includes sophomore Caitlin Cavarra and junior Haley Bassett each crossing the plate twice, but it was UMKC, who tallied four runs in the seventh to pull out a 9-7 win in Summit League play.

The Ladies (20-11, 3-2) spotted UMKC a 3-0 advantage going into the bottom half of the third, but Centenary’s offense started clicking. The Ladies scored once in the third, and then they would come around four times in the fourth.

In the fifth, Centenary would add two more runs to extend its lead to 7-4 on RBIs by senior Allison McClain and junior Beth Krysiak.

After getting a quick out in the top of the seventh the Ladies seemed ready to get the sweep, but two errors that inning helped lead to four UMKC (6-23, 1-8) runs. Centenary had one last chance on offense with two-out and the bases loaded, but the threat was ended on a pick-off at third base.

Centenary will be back in Summit League action on Friday and Saturday at Western Illinois. The Ladies won’t return home until April 3-4 when South Dakota State comes to Shreveport.
