SHREVEPORT – Freshman Hillary Phillips tossed 11 strike outs in her second consecutive start to help the Centenary softball team complete the sweep over Summit League rival South Dakota State on Saturday. The Ladies needed just a run in the fourth to gain the 1-0 victory over the Jackrabbits.

In the Ladies half of the fourth, freshman Lindsey Smith was able to reach base after catcher’s interference was called. Smith then would later come around and score when classmate Kalyn Harris single her home.

For Phillips she allowed just the one hit, and would finish the game by retiring 10 straight batters. Marston, meanwhile, pitched six innings, scattered two hits, walked three and struck out nine.

Centenary will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to Stephen F. Austin for a 5:30 p.m. first pitch. The Ladies won’t return home until April 24 when they host conference foe Southern Utah.
