AROUND the HORN with Allison McClain
Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Howdy fans! I welcome you back to yet another exciting week of Around the Horn.

With four weeks of school left, the pressures of papers, tests, and projects have become a feeling of normality for most of us, especially as we wind down the last few weeks of Summit League play and not to mention, school.

After being on the road all last week, relaxing in our own beds and in the comfort of our own belongings is always reassuring—at least for the two days we are home before we pack and leave again.

This past week was long, though we ended successfully as we traveled to IUPUI and were able to take all three games from the Jaguars. After being on the road all day Thursday, we arrived in Indianapolis and went straight to bed. On Friday morning, we woke up and visited the Indianapolis Speedway, which was ridiculously huge. Following that trip, we ate lunch at P.F. Changs and then headed to the field to prepare for our first of three very cold and windy games.

Though the first game ended in extra innings, we were able to stay solid through eight and pull off the needed win. Game two and three were played on Saturday and our bats came alive early as we manage to jump ahead of the Jaguars in each game, posting runs in the first inning.

It may seem minute, though scoring early has been a struggle for us of late, so posting runs in the first few innings was something we definitely needed. Our focus on the conference tournament has become very strong, as we know that consistent play is all we need to finish out the season on many positive notes.

With our current league record at 10-3 and sitting in third place, we head to Oakland this weekend after we meet up and play the University of Arkansas on Wednesday in Little Rock, Ark.

This weekend’s series is another important one as we are hoping to continue our timely hitting and solid pitching from this past series with IUPUI. At this point in the season, it’s about “what’s important now.” And to us—it’s the process and the steps we take towards a successful regular season finish and conference tournament.

As always, I would like to introduce two of my teammates this week. They are not only roommates, but they each share a sense of uniqueness that is unlike anyone else I know.
