SHREVEPORT – The Centenary volleyball team and head coach Dan Gwitt have announced signing of Shelby Singleton from New Orleans and Mackenzie Hubbard of Rock Falls, Ill., to a National Letter of Intent.

Singleton, who attends De La Salle High School has been named all-district as a junior and senior, while also receiving a pair of all-tournament teams honors. During the state playoffs in 2008, Singleton knocked down 23 kills against New Iberia High School.

Shelby is one of those kids that as a coach you cannot wait to train,” said Gwitt. “She stands around 6’6” tall and she moves well around the court.  Not only does she have HUGE potential, but she is a vey humble young lady that comes from a great family.  Shelby will help replace lone senior Ashlee Freeman in the middle position.”

Hubbard, meanwhile, comes from Rock Falls High School, where she broke the school record for kills in a season with 307. As a junior she also had 93 digs and 79 blocks and was named first team all-conference, all-area and honorable mention all-state by the Champaign News Gazette.

“Mackenzie is a tough young lady that I look forward to coaching and developing.  I believe that Mackenzie will make the transition to the college game quickly and that she will give us great depth as we get deeper into the season and she continues her development. I have high expectations for her and I know that she has high expectations for herself, which usually equals a good match,” Gwitt stated.

Hubbard and Singleton will join Christina Fellows from Oakton, Va., who signed an NLI last week.
