Ladies Welcome Thunderbirds for Three-Games
Thursday, April 23, 2009

SHREVEPORT – Seniors Emerald Doria, Allison McClain and Leslie Postles will have their ‘Senior Day’ on Saturday, but the Centenary softball team will begin its final homestand on Friday when Summit League foe Southern Utah comes to town for a three-game series.

The Ladies are 6-4 in their last 10 games and will look to stop a two-game skid. Centenary could clinch a spot in the conference tournament with one win over the Thunderbirds this weekend.

Freshman Lindsey Smith continues to top the Ladies offense with a .328 average, 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. Smith is now just two long balls away from tying the single season school record of 13 home runs, which was set by Janis Kelly in 2004.

SUU, meanwhile, is 4-6 in its last 10 contests having lost to Utah its last time out on Wednesday. Before their loss to the Utes, the Thunderbirds had won four consecutive games, which includes a sweep of IUPUI.

Leading SUU’s offence is Aly Daniels, who is hitting .353, while Darleen Fernandez tops the team with 13 doubles, 13 home runs and 51 RBIs. Kristina Brooks is the T-Birds top pitcher with a 17-21 record and a 4.31 ERA in 222.1 innings pitched.

The games against the Thunderbirds will be broadcast on www.GoCentenary.com by play-by-play man Roy Lang.

Following the showdown with SUU, Centenary will conclude its home schedule on Wednesday against I-49 rival Northwestern State. The Ladies and Lady Demons will play a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m.
