Rally Falls Short for Ladies

MACOMB, Ill. – The Centenary softball team had chances to put North Dakota State away in Friday’s first round action of The Summit League Championship. However, a rally in the seventh fell short for the Ladies as the Bison won 3-2.

Centenary had its first scoring threat in the fifth when sophomores Bonnie Matak and Caitlin Cavarra each had two out singles. But neither would cross the plate, as junior Haley Bassett flew out to end the inning.

NDSU would go up 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth after a lead-off error would come around and score with two outs. That would be the only run given up by freshman Hillary Phillips, who pitched three innings in relief.

In the seventh for Centenary, freshman Kalyn Harris led-off with a single, while the next two batters would also reach base. Freshman Katie Matthews knocked in the Ladies’ first run, which started the rally, while Haley Bassett platted the other tally on an RBI groundout.
