Saturday, May 9, 2009

MACOMB, Ill. – Freshmen Jenny Vartresssian and Katie Matthews had the Centenary softball team’s only two hits, as the Ladies fell to Western Illinois 9-0 in The Summit League Championship on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Hillary Phillips looked sharp in the early goings, but Western caught up to her as the Westerwinds scored seven times in five plus. The Ladies’ offense, meanwhile, was handcuffed all afternoon, as Vartressian had the first hit in the second, while Matthews’ came in the fifth.

Kamren Ferguson pitched five innings for WIU, as she allowed the two hits, struck out four to earn her 20th win of the year.

The loss ends Centenary’s season, and the Ladies will begin their 2010 campaign in February.
