NEW ORLEANSCentenary softball freshman Lindsay Smith was named second team all-LSWA (Louisiana Sports Writers Association), while classmate Hillary Phillips and junior Haley Bassett captured honorable mention all-state honors, as voted on by the state’s sports information directors and selected members of the media.

Smith was named to the second team after hitting .317 with 12 home runs, 41 RBIs and slugging .602. The Dallas, Texas, native was also in the top 10 of The Summit League in slugging percentage, runs, RBIs, home runs, total bases and walks.

Phillips, who went 15-10 with a 1.97 ERA, which ranked third all-time at Centenary for lowest ERA in a season also fanned 152 opponents on her way to earning honorable mention accolades. The Odessa, Texas, native tossed a no-hitter in her first collegiate start and tossed five shutouts in her rookie campaign.

For the first time in her three-year career Bassett was named to the LSWA postseason team after hitting .271 with a team-high 12 doubles and 13 stolen bases. The Bossier City, La., native is just six doubles from breaking the school record of 40 held by Micah Rhodes.

“All three ladies had a great year and we are very proud of them and their accomplishments,” said head coach Mark Montgomery. “With all three coming back next year, we are hopeful to continue growing the Centenary softball program.”

The Ladies will begin their 2010 season in February in the Centenary Spring Tournament.
