Thursday, August 21, 2008

SHREVEPORT—Bethany Kern has transferred from the University of New Orleans to join the Centenary volleyball team, Head Coach Dan Gwitt officially announced today. Kern will be a sophomore with three years of eligibility and will bolster both the Ladies offensively and defensively.

Kern, a 5’9” outside hitter and defensive specialist from Indianapolis, Ind., spent her freshman season at UNO. She helped the Privateers to a 16-16 overall record and a 10-8 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. She was second on the team with 254 digs and was third on the squad with 25 service aces.

Bethany joins her sister, Brianna, a freshman, on the Centenary roster for the 2008 season. The duo is one of 10 sets of sisters believed to be playing on the same NCAA Division I team this season, only one of five sets that aren’t twins.

The Ladies open their season on August 29th and 30th at the Sam Houston State Tournament. Centenary will face Drake, Sam Houston State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Ball State during the two-day event.
