Orr Era Begins on Saturday

SHREVEPORT – After three days of rain the clouds have parted and field has dried for the Centenary men’s soccer team’s exhibition opener against Harding on Saturday. The Gents and Bison will begin their preseason tussle on Mayo Field at noon.

Last season Centenary was 3-12, but just a win away from making The Summit League Tournament. In 2007, the Gents were led by first team all-conference honoree Aaron Volanski, who led the team with nine goals.

However, the Gents of 2008 will have a lot of new faces, as they return just nine from last season and will welcome 22 newcomers. One of the returnees will be sophomore Josh Gomillion, who was named to the conference’s all-newcomer team.

Harding, meanwhile, was 5-11, but did make the Gulf South Conference Tournament only to lose in the first round. The Bison will be led by Odie Guzman, who earned second team all-conference last season.

Harding also returns one of its top goal scorers from last season, Carter Truax, who found the back of the net four times. The Bison return 13 and welcome seven new student-athletes to their 2008 roster.

The Gents will have one more preseason match, which will be on Monday at UT-Tyler beginning at 7 p.m.
