Gents Winners in Exhibition Match on Saturday

SHREVEPORT – Midway through the first half the Centenary men’s soccer team got on the scoreboard and never looked back. The Gents were victorious over Harding, 4-1, on a very humid Saturday afternoon.


Centenary got its first tally at 22:29 when freshman Aaron Bergman netted on goal off the foot of senior Gabe Silvas. Just about nine minutes later the Gents went up 2-0 on a goal by freshman Ryan Christianson, who was served-up by senior Will Todd.


After the intermission, Harding cut the lead in half on a goal by Gabe Alexander, but the Bison could not get any closer. Freshman John McHugh put the match away for Centenary when he stole the ball from Harding’s goalkeeper Andrew Flesher.


The final goal for Centenary came at the 79:08 mark when a Harding defender knocked in the ball for an own goal.


Between the posts for Centenary Rennie Walker had two saves in 80:30 minutes of work, while Seth Prochaska played the final 9:30, but did not have any save opportunities. For Harding, James Thurmond and Flesher each played a half and allowed two goals, while Thurmond had two saves.


The next test run for Centenary will be on Monday at UT-Tyler starting at 7 p.m. The Gents start the regular season on Sept. 5 against Drake at the Missouri State Tournament in Springfield, Mo.
