Hill Named Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Monday, August 25, 2008

ELMHURST, Ill. – Freshman goalkeeper Deb Hill didn’t plan on starting on Sunday, but minutes before the match was to begin, she was thrusted into the starting lineup. For her efforts against Mississippi Valley State, the Lafayette, La., native has earned Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Against the Devilettes, Hill made eight saves, stopping three in the first half and five in the second. Hill’s biggest saves of the afternoon came late in the match, when she stopped one shot between her legs and another with her finger tips with minutes to go.

“I got so nervous before the match, because I had no idea that I was going to start until coach Wooten told me right before hand,” said Hill. “I also have to give a lot of credit to my defense, they just played outstanding and Catie Depew helped me out all day as well.”

The last player of the week award the Ladies received was last season when former goalie Ali Hilsher captured the honor after shutting out Texas State and Grambling. Centenary’s next action will be Friday at Stephen F. Austin starting at 7 p.m.
