Ladies Downed on Tuesday Night

SHREVEPORT – Freshmen Katie Valdez, Ashley Dolezel and Chelsea Granger led the Ladies with two shots on Tuesday night, but none of them would find the back of the net, as Centenary fell to I-20 rival Louisiana-Monroe, 3-0, at Mayo Field.

The first half was a defensive stalemate, as both the Ladies (1-4) and Warhawks (3-0) could not find an offensive rhythm. Centenary did put four shots on goal, while ULM’s attempts found freshman Deb Hill’s hands three times.

However, 12 minutes into the second half, Maddy Ocon broke the tie as she dumped the ball just over the outstretched arms of Hill. Two minutes later the Warhawks scored again, while their final goal was put in with seven minutes remaining.

Overall, ULM had 13 shots, while Centenary had 10, as Emily LyBarger had a game-high three shots on goal. Defensively Hill and junior Kate Donnelly combined for six stops, while Mallory George also had six saves.

The Ladies will begin a tour of the Lone Star State starting on Friday when they play at Texas State and then at Houston Baptist on Sunday.
