Gents Travel to the Natural State

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary men’s soccer team will have some early season momentum going into this weekends match’s at the Central Arkansas Tournament. The Gents will play Bowling Green on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Belmont on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.


Centenary, who is 1-1 this season split its matches last weekend against Drake and Missouri State. The Gents fell to Drake, 1-0, and beat Missouri State, 1-0, with a first half goal by Brian Hurlburt.


Defensively Centenary played outstanding last weekend, holding its opponents to a .027 shot percentage. Sophomore Rennie Walker had 14 saves and had a .933 save percentage.


Bowling Green has struggled through the early part of this season, as it has fallen to No. 11 South Florida, Furman and the College of Charleston. The Falcons have yet to hit the back of the bet, but are led by Dusko Topolic, who has five shots.


On the defensive side of the field, BGSU allows 2.33 goals per game and a .556 shot on goal percentage. The Falcons goal keeper, Paul Shoemaker has 18 stops, but has let seven shots get past him.


Coming into the weekend in Conway, Belmont is 2-1 with its only loss coming at Oral Roberts. The Bruins started the season by defeating Winthrop and Gardner-Webb in overtime.


Statistically for Belmont, Dan Meacock has scored two goals, while Justin Hay has netted the other goal. The bulk of the playing time in goal for the Bruins has been Janrai Gravely, who has played in all three matches and has allowed four goals, but has 16 saves.


After this weekend, the Gents will travel back to Conway for a match at Central Arkansas on Wednesday starting at 4 p.m.
