Friday, September 19, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The Centenary volleyball team opened The Summit League portion of its 2008 schedule with a loss on Friday night at IUPUI. The Jaguars discarded the Ladies in straight sets, 3-0, by the scores of 25-9, 25-14, 25-19.

Centenary (2-10, 0-1 Summit) could not contain the multi-dimensional offense of IUPUI in its home gym. The Jaguars hit for an impressive .444 percentage in the opening set and then followed that effort up with a .319 hitting percentage in the second set. The Ladies did start to solve the equation in the third set, holding IUPUI to a .114 percentage, but it would be too late for Centenary.

IUPUI (8-5, 1-0 Summit) pounded down 48 kills in 118 attempts with just 13 errors in the win. Kalyse Reimbold led the way with 12 kills, while 12 Jaguars posted at least two kills on the night. Danielle Goodnight had 34 assists and Chelsea Bastin recorded a match-high 16 digs for IUPUI.

Brianna Kern paced Centenary with eight kills with Ashlee Freeman adding seven kills of her own. Caitlin Neese tallied 17 assists and Kayla Tibaldo had 15 digs to lead the Ladies defense.

Centenary will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Macomb, Ill., to take on Summit League foe Western Illinois at 7 p.m.
