Ladies Roll Past Nicholls State
Wednesday, September 24, 2008

THIBODAUX, La. – Centenary freshman Katie Valdez scored two goals and gave one assist in the Ladies’ 4-2 victory over Nicholls State on Wednesday evening.

Centenary got its offense going early in the match, as Valdez scored her first goal of the evening at 10:16. 24 minutes later sophomore Chelsea Cardwell scored her first collegiate goal off of a deflected pass from Valdez, which give the Ladies a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Right after the intermission, Centenary was back on the offensive prowl, as freshman Ashley Dolezel scored her first goal. Valdez put the game out of reach just two minutes later when she lofted the ball over the keeper’s hands.

Offensively, Centenary fired off 25 shots, while the defense held Nicholls to just seven opportunities.

However, of the Colonels seven shots four landed on goal, as Jessica Bedford and Kaity Mattsson each scored for Nicholls. Defensively, Centenary freshman Deb Hill made two saves in her second win of the season.

“I thought we played pretty good this evening,” said head coach Chase Wooten. “Offensively we broke out and defensively continued to play strong, but we did give up those two late goals, which I am glad didn’t end up hurting us.”

Centenary will close the month of September out with a home match against Louisiana Tech on Friday at 7 p.m.
