Ladies Close Fred Marx Invitational in 11th

MONROE, La. – In the final round of the Fred Marx Invitational, the Centenary (323-329-325, 977) women’s golf team cut two strokes off of their second round score, but still finished 81 behind first place Samford, who won after shooting an 896.


Leading the way for the Ladies was Jessica Marquart (78-84-74), who finished in a tie for 21st place after shooting a 236. The Huntsville, Texas, native was 18 strokes behind the winner, Portia Abbott (71-74-73) of Jacksonville State, who topped the leader board with a 218.


Jessica Garza (78-78-81) finished tied for 23rd place after she shot 237, while Leigh Newton (87-82-85) was in 53rd place after completing her three rounds with a 254. Rounding out Centenary’s five golfers were Tracy Williams (85-85-85, 255) and Bethany Cox (82-88-87, 257), who placed 55th and 56th respectively.


The Ladies will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 6, at the ORU Shootout in Tulsa, Okla.
