Ladies No Push Over for ORU
Sunday, October 12, 2008

SHREVEPORT – Eight kills by freshman Erika Lunsford and senior Ashlee Freeman led the Centenary volleyball team’s offense, but it wasn’t enough, as the Ladies fell to Oral Roberts (18-25, 22-25, 16-25) on Sunday afternoon in Summit League play.

In the first set Centenary was in offensive groove, as it was up by four (13-9) after a Freeman kill. However, ORU found its stride and went on a 15-5 run, which helped the Golden Eagles grab the win.

The Ladies, meanwhile, returned the favor in the second set, as they went on a 5-0 late to tie the game at 19. Centenary’s youth showed, as the Golden Eagles called a timeout to kill the Ladies momentum. ORU ended the second set by going on a 6-3 run after the stoppage of play.

The final set began as a back and fourth affair, as neither team had a lead larger than one, until ORU went on an 8-3 run. Leading Centenary’s offense in the final set was freshman Jennifer Kunze, who had three kills.

Backing Lunsford and Freeman offensively was Kunze, who had seven kills, while classmate Brianna Kern added six. Freshman Jaclyn Lopez had a team-high 23 assists, while adding nine digs and an assisted block.

Centenary will be back in action on Tuesday when I-20 rival Louisiana Tech comes to the Fitness Center for a 7 p.m. start.
