SHREVEPORT -- From the start of the meet in the 200-yard medley relay, the Gents lost out by only 44 hundredths’ of a second. 


With the next event being the 1000-yard freestyle, the Gents regrouped to gain back some of the points lost in the 200-yard medley relay The race was a four-man competition for the first 850 yards,  then a move was made by Arron Otto, who finished first and second place Quinn Larwood.   


In the 200-yard freestyle sophomore Josh Pena lead the way with a season-best time 1:47.95 for a hard fought third place.  He was followed by Benjamin Barrett, who placed fourth and Chase Lambert was in fifth place.


The 100-yard backstroke was won by freshman Peter Henry from the outside with a time of 54.55, and teammate Alex Opland was in second out-touching UIW Alex Bobst.


In the 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore John Cefalu was outpaced by UIW’s Blake McKay and was just off his season-best mark.  Junior Clay Malinovsky finished in fourth place and freshman Wray Borland got out touched.


The men’s 200-yard butterfly had a surprise by Wlad Montoya swam the 200-yard butterfly was just out touched in the 200-yard butterfly, as UIW’s Rudy Escalante won.  Junior Rustin Green missed third place by eight tenths and Larwood finished in the points.


The fastest race of the meet was the 50-yard freestyle, as Bryan Myers, Caleb McSorley and Devin Ross were all out touched by just two tenths of a second.


In the second fastest race of the meet, the 100-yard freestyle was won by sophomore Josh Pena, who grabbed first with a season-best time of 48.48.  Barrett and Chase Lambert brought home points for fourth and fifth place in the freestyle.


Opland matched pace with UIW Rudy Escalante for 150 yards of the 200 yard backstroke, but got outpaced in the last 50 of the race. Opland, meanwhile, did finish the race with a season-best time of 2:01.91. 


The 200 Breaststroke saw Malinovsky swim an even race for second place (2:19.62) followed by Cefalu, who finished in third place (2:22.95) and the Gents also got points from fifth place Borland. Lambert finished in second place in the 500-yard freestyle behind UIW’s Alex Yatsko, while Otto and Anthony both swam the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke to finishes of fourth and sixth place.


In the men’s 100-yard butterfly, Montoya was behind for 75 of the 100 yards but managed to have a great turn and finished two tenths of a second in front of UIW’s Sean Reeves. Also in the same race, Green (54.27 season-best) and freshman Tyler Bassett finished in the points. 


The final relay of the meet was the 200-yard freestyle, as there was some back and forth between UIW and the Gents. Lambert dove in for the anchor leg and was behind until the finish, by just out touching UIW, winning 1:27.68 to 1:27.92.
