BROOKINGS, S.D. – Despite dropping the first two sets, the Centenary volleyball team still fought hard in the final set at South Dakota State on Friday evening in Summit League action (16-25, 12-25, 26-28).

The Ladies (4-17, 0-7) fell into an early hole, but still clawed their way out, tying the first set at seven. However, a 7-2 run by the Jackrabbits (5-12, 4-3) midway through put the game out of reach for Centenary.

Six straight SDSU points early and another 6-0 run spelled the fate for Centenary in the second set. In the second game, Kinsey Mims and Brianna Kern each had two kills, while Jaclyn Lopez added seven assists.

Kern continued to show her offensive muscle in the third set, as she pounded down five kills. Classmate Jennifer Kunze also had some offensive fire power, smacking four kills, which includes getting a kill to get the set within two midway through.

Overall, Kern led the way with 11 kills, Kunze followed with eight, while Lopez and Caitlin Neese had 15 and 12 assists respectively. Topping the defensive stats for Centenary was Mims and senior Ashlee Freeman, who combined to make three blocks.

The next action for Centenary will be on Saturday when its travels to North Dakota State for a 7 p.m. first serve.
