Tough Luck Continues For Ladies
Saturday, October 18, 2008

SHREVEPORT – Sophomore Chelsea Cardwell gave the Centenary women’s soccer team two shots, while freshman Laura Immenschuh followed with one. However, in the end it wasn’t enough, as the Ladies fell to Oral Roberts, 4-0, in Summit League play on Friday night.

Sophomore Emily McManus gave Centenary (2-11-1, 0-4-0) its first offensive chance off of a corner kick, but her shot attempt went wide. The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, scored their first goal about three minutes later when Correne Walker beat the defense inside 20 yards.

Cardwell gave the Ladies a chance to tie the match when he bouncing shot nearly scooted past keeper Amanda Wheeler. Nearing halftime, ORU’s (4-8-1, 2-2-0) Lorena Soto had two shots, her first went wide and her second was lifted over the keeper’s hands from 10 yards out.

Attempting to get the game within one, Immenschuh had her shot on goal attempt stopped cold. In the 57th and 78th minute the Golden Eagles put the game out of reach with a pair of goals.

Centenary will be on the road for two matches next weekend, on Friday the Ladies travel to Western Illinois and Sunday they will play at Southern Utah.
