Westerwinds and Rain down Ladies
Friday, October 24, 2008

MACOMB, Ill. – 15 combined saves by Kate Donnelly and Deb Hill wasn’t enough defensive for the Centenary women’s soccer team, as it fell to Western Illinois on Friday, 4-0, in Summit League play.

Offensively the Ladies (2-12-1, 0-5-0) were led by Katie Valdez and Chelsea Cardwell, who each had two shots. Cardwell and junior Kristine Weaver put a shot on goal, but both attempts were stopped by WIU keeper Ashley Shugar.

The Westerwinds (6-8-2, 2-4-0) scored two goals in each half; the first came at 3:18, while the second one was scored just a minute later. WIU’s points in the second period came five minutes in and again at 60:36.

“WIU did very well in the final third and that gave us fits all afternoon,” said head coach Chase Wooten. “We gave up two early goals and then we had to start chasing the game after that.”

That Ladies will try to bounce back on Sunday afternoon at Southern Utah with game set to begin at 1 p.m. Shreveport time.
