SHREVEPORT – The Centenary softball team is ranked 40th among all NCAA Division I programs in GPA, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association magazine Fastpitch Delivery.

The Ladies finished last season with a team GPA of 3.248 and the only Summit League school to finish ahead of Centenary was Western Illinois, who had a 3.384 GPA. The conference is also represented by South Dakota State and Oakland who is ranked 68th and 70th respectively. In all, Division I softball has over 260 teams playing.

“I am proud of the team, and it shows what great student-athletes we have, and how hard they work in the classroom,” said head coach Mark Montgomery.

The team is also getting it done on the field as well. The Ladies have made a trip to the conference championship every season they have been in The Summit League. Centenary also has made two trips to the NCAA Tournament, qualifying for the big dance in 2004 and 2005.

Centenary will begin its 2009 season on Friday, Feb. 6 in the Centenary Tournament against Boston College.
