Another Fight Falls Short for Ladies
Friday, October 31, 2008

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Senior Ashlee Freeman led the Centenary volleyball team with five kills on Friday night against Oakland, but it wasn’t enough, as the Ladies fell in straight sets (20-25, 8-25, 22-25) in conference action.

Centenary (4-21, 0-11) had four student-athletes tally two kills to lead the offense, while also getting offensive production from three Golden Grizzly (6-17, 3-8) service errors. The Ladies had a two point lead (18-16) after an Oakland ball handling error in the first game, but couldn’t hold the lead.

The second set was tough offensively for Centenary, as it only had three kills and hit -.23. To open up the second game, the Ladies were able to score off of a kill by freshman Kinsey Mims and a service ace by classmate Brianna Kern.

After a Freeman block late in the third set it looked as though Centenary had things clicking, but Oakland closed the game on a 6-0 run to win. Freeman led the offense with three kills, while Jennifer Kunze followed with two.

Up next for Centenary will be a trip to IPFW for a Saturday night match to begin at 7 p.m. central time.
