Swimming Rolls to a First Day Win

CONWAY, Ark. – With 13 first place finishes, the Centenary swimming teams rolled to a opening night victory at the Hendrix Classic and Relays. The Ladies scored 391 points on Friday, while the men tallied 379.

 

Freshman Madeline Wyatt (10:33.29) won the first race for Centenary, as she was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard freestyle Cassie Cloutet (1:58.16) won by over a second against Stephanie Heutel of Arkansas-Little Rock.

 

The Gents got their first win in the 200-yard freestyle with Chase Lambert (1:46.64) touching the wall first. Leslie Wyatt (25:13) swam a close race in the 50-yard freestyle, but was able to still pull out the win.

 

Bryan Myers (21:96) also picked up a win in the 50-yard freestyle and Leslie Wyatt (2:15.54) also notched a win in the 200 yard IM. John Cefalu was seven tenths of a second fast than Wlad Montoya in the 200-yard IM to get another Gents victory.

 

Freshman Peter Henry (1:58.20) was over two seconds faster than Scott Eakin of McMurray to pick up a win in the 200-yard butterfly. Leslie Clampitt (54.76) got nearly a one second win in the 100-yard freestyle over Heutel.

 

Madeline Wyatt (2:10.11) was over four seconds quicker than teammate Lauren Lassiter in the 200-yard backstroke. Maggie Vaughan (5:13.43), meanwhile, swam one and two against Cloutet (5:15.04) in the 500-yard freestyle.

 

In the final event of the evening both of the 400-yard freestyle relay teams for Centenary were winners. The Ladies defeated UT-Permian Basin by six seconds, while the Gents were 15 second faster than Colorado College.

 

The Ladies and Gents finished the Hendrix Classic and Relays on Saturday afternoon and results will be available shortly.
