Season Ends for Ladies on a Sour Note
Sunday, November 2, 2008

SHREVEPORT – Freshman Chelsea Granger and sophomore Candace Rushing each had two shots on goal to help the Centenary women’s soccer team offense, but none of the four would find the back of the net in the 2-0 loss to Summit League foe IUPUI on Sunday afternoon.

The Jaguars (13-6-1, 7-1-0) didn’t take long to score, as they hit the net at 16:54 on a goal by Alicia Brock.

The Ladies (3-14-1, 1-7-0), meanwhile, had a golden opportunity to tie the match in the 34th minute when Granger fired a shot that nearly bounced over the head of IUPUI keeper Jamie Farrell. Seconds later Rushing’s shot was saved by a defender after Farrell was out of position trying to make the previous save.

In the second half the match remained 1-0 until the 87th minute when Katrina McCrory went to the upper 90 to score the backbreaker. Centenary fired off two more shots on goal, as Rushing’s came at 54:33 and Granger’s came five minutes later, but neither could sneak past the keeper.

In goal for Centenary was Deb Hill and Kate Donnelly, who each made two saves and allowed one goal apiece, while their counterpart Farrell made four stops for IUPUI.

This was the final match of 2008 for Centenary and it will be back on the field in August 2009.
