Gents Dominate Their Way to Victory

SOUTHLAKE, Texas – The Centenary men’s swimming team dominated the three session Trinity Western Shootout, finishing 234 points in front of second place Henderson State on Nov. 22.    


In the first event, the team of Devin Ross, Josh Pena, Chase Lambert and Bryan Myers were second, but only 13 hundredths of a second in front of teammates Peter Henry, Wlad Montoya, John Cefalu, and Anthony LeBlanc, who placed third.


The 500 yard freestyle saw Chase Lambert finish in third place, while the 200 yard Individual Medley gave the Gents get second and third place finish by Cefalu and Henry. 


Ross and Myers, meanwhile, were out-touched in the 50 yard Freestyle, but both swam season best times.  In the final event of the session was the 400 yard Medley Relay, and the Gents won the race, but was just off of their season best time.


Session II started off with a Gents victory in the 200 yard Medley Relay, as Henry, Cefalu, Montoya and Myers finished with a season best time.  In the 400 IM Rustin Green and Matt Harris placed in fifth and sixth place respectively.


The 100 yard Backstroke gave the Gents a second (Henry), third (Cefalu) and fourth place finish (Otto). Montoya (51.58), meanwhile, finished third in the 100 yard Butterfly, while the Gents 200 yard medley relay team finished first, which ended session two.


The first event of the final session was the 200 yard Backstroke and Centenary dominated with a second (Cefalu), third (Henry), fourth (LeBlanc) and fifth (Otto) place finish. The 100 yard freestyle gave Centenary a third (Barrett), fourth (Lambert) and fifth (Pena) place finish.


The 200 yard Breaststroke gave Cefalu a second place finish and Clay Malinvosky a fifth place showing. During the final 400 yard freestyle relay, both of the Gents’ relay teams took home a second and fifth place finish.   


The final individual event of the meet was the 1650 yard freestyle, which saw Otto and Larwood finish fourth and fifth respectively.
