Ladies Dominate Air Force

SHREVEPORT – Led by three event champions and one all-around winner, the Centenary gymnastics team flew to a 192.800-189.550 victory over the Air Force Academy on Friday night in the Gold Dome.


Junior Courtney Hawkins started things for the Ladies with a 9.80 on the vault, while Stephanie Wright and Alyssa Zawieja went one and two on bars. Wright took first place with a score of 9.850, while Zawieja just missed a tie by .025 hundredths of a point.


On the floor, Centenary took five of the top seven places. The top finisher for Centenary was Hawkins, who won with a 9.80, while Marisa Schneider, Melody Smith, Whitney Daugherty and Julia Cornelius all went four, five, six and seven respectively.


Hawkins (38.925) was also the all-around champion, as she defeated Jenna Dudley (38.825) of the Air Force, by a tenth of a point.


Centenary’s next action will be on Friday, Feb. 13, at Kentucky with the meet set to start at 7 p.m. Lexington, Ky., time.
