SEC Powers Too Much for Ladies
Saturday, February 14, 2009

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A fifth place all-around performance by junior Courtney Hawkins wasn’t enough to lift the Centenary (187.350) gymnastics team to a victory over Kentucky (195.150) and Georgia (196.975) on Friday night.

On the vault, the Ladies were led by Alyssa Zawieja, who finished in 13th place after scoring a 9.600. Zawieja continued to shine for Centenary on bars, as she posted a 9.600, which was good enough for an 11th place showing.

Julia Cornelius was the Ladies top act on the balance beam, as she closed the event with a 9.525. Hawkins, meanwhile, placed 11th on the floor exercise after she scored a 9.700, which was twenty-five hundredths of a point behind Jasmine Mini on of Kentucky.

The Ladies will be back in action on Feb. 27, at Texas Woman’s University at 7 p.m.
