Swimming Ladies and Gents to Compete in Conference

SHREVEPORT – After both Centenary men’s and women’s swimming teams had a successful regular season, the Ladies and Gents will now try to push towards a great finish at The Summit League Championship starting on Thursday in Rochester, Mich.


For the Gents, junior John Cefalu had four top individual times this season, while he helped with two in the 200 and 400-yard medley relay’s. Freshman Peter Henry set a team-best time in the 100-yard backstroke, while being a part of four top times in relays.


In back-to-back seasons, Centenary has finished second to Oakland, and in 2007 the Gents had their best finish with 603.5 points. Last year Centenary also had the 800-yard freestyle relay team capture a championship.


On the women’s side, freshman Maddie Wyatt has had seven team-low times, with six individual marks and one relay event. Wyatt has also won three Summit League Female Swimmer of the Week honors this year.


The Ladies best finish at the league championship was a fourth place showing last season and they also had their best team score of 431.0 points. In the past two seasons, junior Maggie Vaughan has had three individual championships at the conference meet.
