Phillips and Bassett Lead Ladies Over Grambling

GRAMBLING, La. – Centenary junior Haley Bassett drove in two runs and freshman Hillary Phillips pitched a complete shutout in the Ladies 6-0 win over Grambling on Tuesday afternoon.


After sophomore Caitlin Cavarra and junior Allison Shepperd reached base in the first, Bassett came up and knocked in both with a double to the center field fence. In the second, Centenary (8-2) scored four times with four different student-athletes picking up an RBI.


Also in the second inning freshman Lindsey Smith belted her third home run in as many games.


Phillips pitched a gem against the Tigers, as she retired 11 straight batters between the first and fifth innings. For the game, the Odessa, Texas, native scattered just two hits, walked two and fanned eight.


The Ladies will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Louisiana-Monroe at 5:30 p.m. The game can be heard on www.GoCentenary.com with the pregame show starting five minutes prior to first pitch.
