SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's volleyball team dropped three straight sets to IPFW on Saturday night in Summit League play.

Centenary (3-12, 0-5 Summit) couldn't overcome a well-balanced IPFW squad, falling in set one (25-21), set two (25-20), and set three (25-16).

The Ladies jumped ahead 2-0, but the Mastodons quickly responded when Centenary failed to execute, tallying two errors. The score was tied nine different times throughout the set.

Centenary's last chance to take a lead was at a 15-15 tie on a kill by sophomore Brianna Kern, but two errors and a Mastodon service ace allowed IPFW to go ahead, 19-15.

However, while down, the Ladies rallied to score four straight points on an IPFW attack error, kills by sophomore Jennifer Kunze and freshman Christina Fellows, along with a service ace by freshman Blair Claypoole to pull within one, 22-21.

Though, a forceful attack late by the Mastodons gave them a 25-21 win.

Set two seemed to be in control most of the time by the Ladies after tying it at 8-8 on a Mastodon attack error. Sophomore Stevie Hurlburt responded with a service ace to make it 10-9.

Centenary took a lead, 11-10 on an IPFW service error. The Ladies were able to hold onto the lead until three errors allowed the Mastodons to even the set back at 16-16. From then on, the Ladies couldn't respond, falling 25-20.

Centenary tallied 10 errors in the final set, which allowed IPFW to hold on to the early lead. The closest the Ladies would come would be by two, 8-6. The Mastodons took advantage of the miscues, winning the final set, 25-16.

Centenary finished the match with 28 kills to IPFW's 38. The Ladies were led by Kunze with eight and Fellows with six.

Sophomore Jaclyn Lopez had a team-high 22 assists, while three Ladies totaled double-digit digs. Brianna Kern led with 13, followed by junior Bethany Kern with 12 and Lopez with 10.

Centenary will return to the court on Oct. 2 when it travels to Western Illinois for a Summit League contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
