Thursday, October 1, 2009
DALLAS, Texas-The Centenary men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 non-conference contest to SMU on Wednesday evening.

The Gents (2-6-1) played a tight first half, but allowed the Mustangs to net three in the final 45 minutes of play for their fourth win of the season.

The match remained a 0-0 tie until the 37:45 mark when SMU's Dane Saintus netted the first goal of the game off a cross that reached the back of the net to put the Mustangs up 1-0 headed into the second half.

With 21 seconds into the final half, SMU scored its second goal off a rebound by Saintus for his fifth goal this season and second of the game.

A fairly quiet thirty minutes passed before the Mustangs went on a scoring surge with two more goals. Their third goal came at 76:49 by Joe Cooper, while the fourth goal came nine minutes later at 85:33 again, by Saintus.

The Gents were able to net one goal before the end of regulation play when sophomore Ryan Christianson found the back of the net on a double assist by sophomores RB Asenime and Tate McIntyre at 89:36.

Centenary's keeper junior Rennie Walker was in goal for 90 minutes, garnering four saves, while Craig Hill of SMU tallied two.

As a team, the Gents put up six shots to the Mustangs' impressive 25. Christanson led Centenary with two shots, one on goal and one goal scored, while sophomore Brian Hurlburt and freshman Kristian Ford each had a shot on goal.

Centenary will host Oakland on Saturday at 5:00 pm at Mayo Field in its Summit League home opener.
