Summit League Soccer Matches Highlight Weekend Action

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary soccer teams will each host Summit League soccer matches this weekend at Mayo Field. The weekend's matches will be home conference openers for each team.

The Ladies will open with South Dakota State at 7:00 pm on Friday, while the Gents will take on Oakland at 5:00 pm on Saturday followed by a final women's match against North Dakota State on Sunday at 12:00 pm.

With an 8-1 overall record and a 6-0 record at home heading into its conference opener, the Ladies have made heads turn of late with their impressive play and strong offensive balance and look to continue the winning streak at home.

Currently, sophomore Katie Valdez leads the way with 17 points on five goals and seven assists in nine games played. Classmate Chelsea Granger and freshman Allison Rucinski each have tallied four goals with 10 and nine points respectively.

As a team, Centenary has outscored its opponents, 26-13 and has a .546 shot on goal percentage through its first nine games.

While senior keeper Kate Donnelly has been out with an injury, sophomore Deb Hill has stepped in and garnered 40 saves and recorded three shutouts.

South Dakota enters the match with a 3-4-2 record. The Jackrabbits are currently led by Kaitlin Justice with three goals and six points, while Kayla Braffet has two goals and four assists for eight points.

North Dakota State enters Sunday's match with a 3-5-2 record led by Brooklyn Dyce with two goals and four points.

The Gents will take on Oakland, who was selected to finish second in the league during the preseason poll.

Centenary will enter Saturday's match just coming off a 4-1 loss to SMU on Wednesday. The Gents hold an overall record of 2-6-1 and are currently 1-0 in league play having beaten IPFW, 1-0 in the opener last week.

Leading Centenary with six points and three goals is senior Todd Faulkinberry. Sophomore All-Leaguer John McHugh has a team-best three assists.

Junior keeper Rennie Walker has made 46 saves in eight games with a .780 save percentage, while freshman Robbie Ramirez has appeared in five games with 11 saves.

Oakland is 4-3-2 and 1-0 in league action heading in the match against the Gents. The Golden Grizzlies are led by Stephan St. Louis with three goals and seven points.
