SHREVEPORT-Despite allowing an early goal, the Centenary men's soccer team fought its way back to a 3-1 victory over Houston Baptist on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

The Gents (3-7-1, 1-1 Summit) fired off 17 shots and had strong presence in goal in the second match against the Huskies this season.

Houston Baptist went up 1-0 on a goal by Mateo Jimenez that deflected off a Centenary defender, reaching the top left corner at 21:55.

A competitive first half gave way for sophomore Jihad Elaydi to notch his first goal of the season. The Arlington, Texas native rebounded his shot off a saved ball that was shot in goal by sophomore RB Asenime at 32:21.

A 1-1 tie sent the teams into a very aggressive second half. The Huskies tallied 15 shots in the final 45 minutes, but it was two of the seven Centenary shots that gave the Gents the win.

At 48:23, sophomore Tate McIntyre sent a tapped ball by teammate John McHugh into the bottom left corner, giving Centenary its first lead at 2-1.

The Gents didn't stop there as junior Ryan Watson headed a ball into the net over the goalie's head at 81:07 off an assist by McIntyre for a 3-1 advantage.

Centenary goalies junior Rennie Walker and freshman Robbie Ramirez were in goal, splitting time. Walker garnered three saves in the first half, while Ramirez stepped up and made nine strong saves in the final half.

McIntyre led the Gents with three shots, two on goal, one goal scored and one assist. Sophomore Brian Hurlburt, senior Todd Faulkinberry, and junior Zac Farrar each had two shots.

The Gents will be back in action on Saturday when they host Oral Roberts at 7:00 p.m. in Summit League play.
