Ladies Blank BPCC in Fall Outing

SHREVEPORT-Strong offense performances by sophomore Katie Matthews and freshman Rachel Conard led to a14-0 victory for the Centenary women's softball team over Bossier Parish Community College on Tuesday evening in fall action.

The Ladies used an 11-hit night, led by a 2-for-5 effort by Matthews, who doubled, homered, and drove in six runs at the plate.

Conard was also impressive in the box, going 2-for-4 with a single, homerun, and two RBI.

Junior Caitlin Cavarra was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, while sophomore Kalyn Harris drove in two runs on two doubles.

Centenary plated six runs in the bottom of the second inning on three straight walks, an error, and three hits to go up 6-0. A five-run fifth put the Ladies up 11-0, before scoring three more runs in the final two frames.

Getting the start for Centenary on the mound was freshman Jessica Sheldon, who tossed a gem to earn the win. The righty threw 6.0 complete innings, allowing no runs on three scattered hits, while fanning seven and walking only one.

Junior Lauren Highsmith came in to close out the game, throwing a scoreless seventh inning. In one inning of work, Highsmith fanned two, allowed one hit, and walked one.

The Ladies will wrap up their fall season at home against BPCC on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
