Gents Swing Low in Opening Round, Finish Eighth

DESTIN, Fla.-The Centenary men's golf team shot a combined two-round score of 605 to finish in eighth place at the Indian Bayou Classic hosted by North Alabama on Tuesday.

After an impressive first round on Monday of 295, just 10 over par, the Gents were in a tie for third place. However, Centenary added 15 strokes to its opening round to finish with a final round of 310 and in eighth place.

Junior Greg Berthelot (73-74, 147) shot three over for the tournament, finishing in a tie for 12th place as the Gents top finisher. Behind Berthelot was sophomore Denver Green, (74-77, 151) who tied for 23rd and junior Cannon Earp, (74-79, 153) who tied for 34th.

Rounding out the Centenary golfers were seniors Mark Weeber (75-80, 155) and Nick Faitz (74-81, 155) who each tied for 48th.

North Alabama paced the field with a first round score of 285 and a second round of 287 for a combined 572. Valdosta State (290-292, 582) took home second, while Shorter College (296-299, 595) and Columbus State (297-298, 595) finished in a tie for third.

Individually, North Alabama's (69-65, 134) Brett Munson placed first with a -10 under par over two rounds.

The Gents will wrap up their fall season at Sienna Plantation Golf Club in Houston, Texas, hosted by Houston Baptist on Oct. 25-27.
