Ladies and Gents Swim Past Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas-A strong showing by the Centenary men's and women's swimming teams led to an impressive 215-61 win for the Ladies and a 219-37 victory for the Gents on Saturday over Austin College.

Centenary won every event it competed in on the day and several swimmers broke into the top 10 all-time with their outstanding performances.

On the women's side, Maddi Wyatt, Kelley Hannah and Laura Huning led the way with three overall victories.

Wyatt placed first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.65 and the 200 yard backstroke with a finish of 2:15.31. Hannah placed first in the 50 yard free after swimming the race in 25.57.

They were both part of the 200 yard free style relay team along with Allison Jones and Leslie Wyatt. The foursome finished the final race of the day in 1:44.21 for a first place victory.

Huning swam the 200 yard butterfly in 2:12.32 for a top finish, while also taking home top honors in the 100 yard freestyle (55.38). The freshman joined Jessica Brown, Brittany Wilkens and Hannah in the 200 yard medley relay (1:56.89) to set the tone in the first event of the day.

Maggie Vaughan won the 1000 yard freestyle (10:57.17) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:23.57) 10 second better than her follower. Brown led the way in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.51), while Kendra Norman placed first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:37.20).

Rounding out the top individual winners for the Ladies are Leslie Wyatt in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.45), Kate Rivers in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.55), and Lexi Crovetto in the 200 yard IM (2:22.68).

For the Gents, Ryne Smith and Josh Grey led the way with three overall wins. Smith completed the 100 yard breaststroke (1:01.54), 200 yard breaststroke (2:17.24), and the 200 yard IM (2:03.26) all in first place.

Grey succeeded in the 200 yard butterfly (1:56.37) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:50.54) by 20 seconds. The freshman was also the third swimmer on the first place 200 yard medley relay team (1:40. 39) joining teammates Josh Scott, Clay Malinovsky, and Devin Ross.

Leading the way in their respective events were Matthew Pittman in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:14.88), Scott in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.61), and Chris Prater in the 100 yard backstroke (56.82).

Four more individuals took home first: Devin Ross in the 50 yard freestyle (21.80), Josh Pena in the 100 yard freestyle (48.95), Ross Olivier in the 200 yard backstroke (1:59.14) and Mark Bassett in the 100 yard butterfly (55.57).

To wrap up the final event of the day was Anthony LeBlanc, Caleb McSorley, Thomas Schwertz, and Ross with a first place victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:28.56).

Centenary will head to Conway, Arkansas on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Hendrix Classic.
