SHREVEPORT-While playing a very competitive IUPUI team, the Centenary women's soccer team held its own, but fell 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Summit League play.

The Ladies (9-5-1, 1-4-1 Summit) were outshot by just five, 15-10 on the match. Junior Catie Depew, sophomore Chelsea Granger, senior Lauren Cheaney and freshman Holden Penney each made big defensive plays to keep the Jaguars within reach.

Despite a strong effort by Centenary in the first half, IUPUI was able to go up 1-0 on a goal by Katrina McCrory at the 18:44 mark.

Off the bench, freshmen Allison Rucinski and Kelly Fossard tried to tie the game, each firing off shots on goal in the final minutes of the first half, but none found the net.

Leading 1-0, the Jaguars didn't waste any time when Alexandria Baer netted goal just 26 seconds into the final 45 minutes of play. From teammate Megan Hock, her shot reached the bottom right corner for a 2-0 advantage.

Nearly 30 minutes later, Centenary's leading scorer Katie Valdez scored her seventh season goal on an assist by freshman Hisa Turner that narrowed the deficit to one.

IUPUI wouldn't allow the Ladies to attempt a tie as Leslie Walker dribbled in the ball for the Jaguars third goal of the match.

Senior goal keeper Kate Donnelly was in goal all 90 minutes, tallying five saves, while Jamie Farrell made four saves for the Jaguars.

Valdez fired off six shots, one on goal, while senior Lauren Stanley, Rucinski, Fossard, and freshman Morgan Ulliman each had a shot on goal.

Sunday's match concluded the Ladies home schedule. Centenary will hit the road to Southern Utah for a 4:00 pm match on Thursday and a 3:00 pm match on Saturday at UMKC.
