Successful Weekend for Swimming

CONWAY, Ark.-Many records were broken in a successful weekend for the Centenary men's and women's swimming team as they each performed well at the Hendrix Classic and Hendrix Relays.

On Friday, the teams competed in 26 events during the Hendrix Classic. The Ladies tallied 368 points, while the Gents garnered 360 for first place team finishes.

Etching their names in the record books were Leslie Wyatt, Madeline Wyatt, Laura Huning and Cassie Cloutet who won the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:04.34, putting them fourth on the all-time list.

Maggie Vaughan's performance in the 500 Free (5:19.66) landed her a top finish, while Cloutet took home first in the 200 Free (1:59.79) for a season best. Huning also notched a top finish in the 50 Free (25.68), placing her 10th on the all-time list.

Also winning for the Ladies was Julie Hughes in the 200 Fly with her best time of 2:12.01. Madeline Wyatt paced the swimmers in the 100 Free (54.52), while Leslie Wyatt notched her season best in the 200 Breaststroke (2:30.79) and won the 200 Yard IM (2:14.26).  The 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team (3:40.60) of Cloutet, Huning, Allison Jones, and Madeline Wyatt took home top honors.

For the Gents, the 400 Yard Medley Relay Team of Josh Scott, Ryne Smith, Devin Ross and Caleb McSorley placed first with a time of 3:34.85. Josh Grey set a team record for his first-place effort in the 1000 Free (9:43.92), and teammate Matthew Pittman followed (9:58.07), moving up on the all-time list.

Josh Pena paced the 200 Free (1:47.57), while McSorley won the 50 Free (21.93). Grey placed first in the 200 Fly (1:56.03) to move up again on the all-time record list and also recorded a season best in the 500 Free (4:49.23) for the top finish. Ross notched a lifetime best in the 100 Free (47.77), while teammate Pena (48.04) took second with a season best time.

Ross Olivier moved into second all-time in the 200 Back after a first place time of 1:54.64. The final relay team of Scott, Ross, McSorley and Pena out swam their opponents in the 400 Yard Free in a time of 3:14.14.

Swimming against a top relay team of Henderson State, both the Ladies and Gents finished in second place on Saturday during the Relay events.

Several teams did finish on top, as most of the other events, Centenary placed second.

The Ladies were led by two relay teams, first Hughes, Vaughan, and Lauren Kloepher in the 1500 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 16:15.99 and Haley Schneider, Hughes, and Cloutet in the 300 Fly with a time of 3:03.81.

On the men's side, the Gents also won two relay events led by the 300 Yard Backstroke team of Aaron Otto, Olivier, and Scott (2:39.28) and the 1500 Yard Freestyle team of Adam Pennington, Pittman, and Grey in 14:38.33.

For the day, Centenary tallied 768 points as the Ladies recorded 386 and the Gents recorded 382.

The two teams will be back in action as they compete at Delta State at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
