Gents End Season With Heartbreaker

SHREVEPORT-In its season finale, the Centenary men's soccer team battled until the end, but dropped a 3-2 overtime heartbreaker to IUPUI on Saturday evening.

The Gents (3-14-1, 1-5-0 Summit) honored three seniors, Todd Faulkinberry, Mo Assi and Cole Campbell in the final match during halftime.

A competitive first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate as neither team was able to find the back of the net. IUPUI landed its first goal at 49:22 on a shot by Perez Agaba on a double assist by Nate Ohmer and Eric Weigman.

After a Jaguar foul, Centenary assist leader, sophomore John McHugh tied the match at 1-1 on a penalty kick at 52:46. Three minutes later, freshman Ethan Miller scored his first collegiate goal on an unassisted shot that chipped the goalie to make it a 2-1match.

With a passing of 20 minutes, the Gents held onto their second half lead, until IUPUI's Michael Wignot fired off a header that reached net past goal keeper Rennie Walker to even the score.

A 2-2 tie sent the match into its first overtime where the Jaguars were able to score first on an unassisted shot by Yogi Snider for the win.

Centenary and IUPUI each fired off 16 shots led by McHugh with five and two on goal. Miller had two shots, both on goal, while freshman Kristian Ford tallied two shots, one on goal.

Campbell got the start between the post, making three saves over the first half. Walker played the final 53:27 in goal, making two saves.

This match concludes the Gents regular season.
