Swimmers Record Several Top Three Finishes, Fall at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Ohio-The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams competed in a dual meet against Delta State on Saturday. The Ladies fell 170-92, while the Gents dropped a 165-97 contest at the DSU Aquatics Center.

The teams recorded several first place victories, while also notching several season best performances.

The Ladies were led by Maggie Vaughan with two season best, first place finishes in the 1000 Free (10:39.96) and the 500 Free (5:12.63). Also among top finishers was Leslie Wyatt with a season best showing in the 100 Breaststroke (1:08.67) and a second place finish in the 200 Breaststroke (2:31.71).

Cassie Cloutet won second in the 200 Free (2:00.03), while Lauren Kloepfer placed second in the 400 IM (4:44.73).

Rounding out the top three in their respective events were Julie Hughes in the 200 Fly (2:12.38), Laura Huning in the 100 Free (55.25) for a season best, Madeline Wyatt in the 200 Back (2:14.51), Allison Jones in the 50 yard Free (25.92) and Jessica Brown in the 100 Fly (1:00.09).

The Ladies 400 Free relay team of M. Wyatt, Jones, Haley Schneider, and Huning took second with a time of 3:42.04 and the 400 Medley relay team of M. Wyatt, L. Wyatt, Brown and Huning also finished in second at 4:03.30.

The Gents notched several top three finishers throughout, but Devin Ross secured the lone top honor in the 100 Free (47.70) as he recorded a lifetime best. Ryne Smith took second in the 100 Breaststroke (1:00.95) for a season best and second in the 200 Breaststroke (2:33.17), moving him up on the all-time list.

Caleb McSorley placed second in the 50 Free (21.64), while Josh Grey (1:58.64) and Quinn Larwood (2:00.84) won second and third place respectively in the 200 Fly. Grey (9:55.34) and Matthew Pittman (10:03.93) placed second and third in the 100 Free, while Adam Pennington (4:57.57) and Grey (4:57.65) were second and third in the 500 Free.

Devin Ross (52.34) and Tyler Bassett (55.29) finished second and third best in the 100 Fly, as Peter Henry (53.63) and Ross Oliver (53.75) were in the top three in the 100 Back. Smith (4:22.44) placed second in the 400 yard IM and Olivier (1:53.95) was second in the 200 Back.

Relay team of Josh Pena, Ross, Henry and McSorley took second place in the final event of the 400 Free with a total time of 3:12.94 for a season-high. Also, the 400 Medley relay team of Henry, Smith, Ross and Pena swam a season best at 3:31.61.

Several Ladies and Gents will take part in the Henderson Invitational on Saturday.
