Ladies Gym Talk: Laura Loy
Monday, February 1, 2010
Hey Fans,

This week in the gym the assignments were both physically and mentally challenging.  This is the first weekend we do not have a meet, so the assignments were harder than normal.  Coach Gretchen came up with assignments to do routines and parts of routines in a row.  At the beginning of the week it was a struggle to wrap our minds around the assignments, but by the end of the week we realized how much Coach Gretchen believes in us, and everyone stepped up and started working harder to finish the assignments.  Everyone noticed the attitude changes by the end of the week, so Friday afternoon we decided to have a fun practice and wear Mardi Gras colors to practice.  Everyone showed up in lots of purple, yellow, and green and had a fun and productive workout.

As Makensie told you, I hurt my other knee, and Courtney tore her other achilles.  It is hard for both of us to have to sit on the side again this year, but it is very humbling to see everyone stepping it up and working extra hard in the gym to get the assignments done.  Both of us are cheering extra loud in the gym to motivate our teammates and show how much we love them and that we are always going to be there no matter what.

Outside of the gym, this week was full of team functions.  On Thursday we attended the Founders Day Convocation.  It was interesting to hear about the founders of Centenary and the history behind the school's traditions.  The guest speaker, Dr. Webb, discussed the importance of remembering the founders of the school.  Then on Friday night after practice the whole team cooked a spaghetti dinner for the swim team.  We wanted to do something special for the swimmers since they helped set up the equipment for the last home meet.  So we worked together as a team to cook lots of spaghetti, meat sauce, broccoli, and some garlic bread.  Then on Saturday, we all went to the swim meet to support them at their last home meet of the season.  As a team we cheered the loudest out of anybody else in the crowd, and it was so fun to cheer on fellow student-athletes.

We got the entire weekend off to rest our bodies so we can come into the gym on Monday excited and ready to have a great week of practice.  Stay tuned to see what happens next with the Ladies!  Our next home competition is Friday, February 5th at 7:00 PM!  It is "Club Gym Night" so bring your USAG member card and get in for 10 cents!

Thanks ~ Laura
