Ladies Record First Win on Matak's Solo Homerun
Saturday, March 12, 2011
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana-Senior Bonnie Matak blasted a solo homerun in the top of the sixth inning for the only run of the game, giving head coach Mark Lambert and the Centenary softball team their first win of the season against Summit League opponent IUPUI in a 1-0 victory on Friday afternoon.

The Ladies progressed to 1-10 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

Centenary played well defensively, holding the Jaguars to just three hits on the afternoon in the first, fourth, and seventh innings.

Senior Lauren Highsmith (7.0,3,0,0,4,2) tossed a gem and earned her first win of the season after firing a complete game. The righty allowed just three hits and four walks while striking out two.

IUPUI had a late-game chance to tie the contest in the bottom of the seventh after a wild pitch, however the Ladies were able to tag the runner out at home, keeping the Jaguars scoreless.

Matak's (1x3, R, RBI) hit was only one of two for the Ladies. Junior Reggie Salvatore (1x3) singled to center field in the top of the seventh for Centenary's only other hit.

The Ladies will continue Summit League action in Indianapolis on Saturday, facing the Jaguars in a double-header beginning at 11 am CT.
