PREVIEW: Gymnastics to Compete at MIC Championships

SHREVEPORT-Coming off its season-high score of 192.575 at UAA last weekend, the Centenary gymnastics team will look to use that momentum as it travels to the MIC Championships in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, hosted by SEMO, on Saturday, March 19 for a 2 pm CT meet start.

The Ladies, who are 5-12 on the season, will take on MIC opponents, TWU, SEMO, Illinois State, and Illinois-Chicago in the one-day event.

EVENT COVERAGE
The KFVS12.com WebCast is scheduled to present the 2011 Midwest Independent Conference Gymnastics Championship meet Saturday afternoon, March 19, live from Houck Field House in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. WebCast coverage of the five-team meet is scheduled to begin at approximately 2:00 p.m. CDT.

The multi-camera WebCast will be presented live around the world at KFVS12.com, and then archived on the web site for users to watch at their convenience. Both the live presentation and the archived version will be available free of charge with no subscription needed. The archived version will be posted shortly after the end of event coverage.

A LOOK AT THE LADIES
Centenary showcased its best performance on Sunday in Alaska, receiving nine Top 3 finishes.

Sophomore Jessica Lieblich received top honors as an All-Around competitor with a four-event total of 38.875.
Lieblich placed first on Beam with a 9.750 and second on Floor with a 9.775, a career-best. Junior Stephanie Wright was also successful in multiple events, tying for second on Bars with a score of 9.775 and tying for third on Beam (career-best) with senior teammate Marisa Schneider after posting a score of 9.700. Sophomores Christy Martinez and Brittany Adams secured first and second place on Vault, respectively with scores of 9.725 and 9.700 (season-best). Junior Melody Smith earned third place honors on Floor with a 9.750, a season-best.

With that effort, Centenary moved up in the National Rankings to No. 56 with an RQS score of 190.940. Among the Midwest Independent Conference, the Ladies rank fifth in every event. Leading the way based on Regional Qualifying Scores is SEMO with a 193.875, followed by UIC (193.205), Illinois State (193.135) and TWU (192.940).

Last year, the Ladies rounded out the field at the MIC Championships in Denton, Texas with a team total of 189.525 in head coach Gretchen Goerlitz's first season as the leader of the program. Since then, Centenary has continued to improve in all facets and is looking to build on its recent success heading into the final week of competition before Nationals.
