SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team fell short in Game 3 of a three game home series to the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State University in a tough 5-3 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Centenary Softball Complex.

Centenary (2-15, 1-5 Summit) outhit SDSU (5-16, 3-0 Summit) nine to five, however the Ladies could not find an answer to the Jackrabbits, leaving nine stranded on base throughout the game.

Sophomore Kelsey Regan (3x4) led the Ladies with three hits followed by juniors Kalyn Harris (2x4) and Leah Dark (2x4) who collected two hits on the afternoon.  Sophomore Bailey Boggs (1x4) and freshman Nicole Warren (1x4) each tallied a hit as well.

Senior Lauren Highsmith (0.2, 1, 3, 3, 2, 2) struggled after pitching well in Game 1 yesterday, giving up three runs, walking two and hitting three on the mound in just 0.2 innings pitched.  Highsmith would strike out two, while allowing one hit.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (6.1, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4) threw well; however she would pick up the loss as she pitched the remainder of the innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while walking two.  Unruh would strike out four batters.

The Jackrabbits batted around, plating three runs in the first inning of play, taking the lead early.  SDSU found the Ladies sneaking up as Centenary scored a quick two runs in the first inning as well.

The Ladies tied the game up at three runs in the bottom of the fifth when Harris singled up the middle, Regan singled to right center, and Dark singled to right field, enough to bring Harris across the plate for the third run for the Ladies.

SDSU responded immediately in the top of the sixth with a one-run homerun by Greta Stroh to pull back ahead (4-3).  The Jackrabbits would plate another run in the top of the seventh.

Centenary began a rally in the bottom of the seventh, as two batters reached base with a double by Harris and a single by Regan; however a fly out to center field by Dark would be enough for the final out of the game as the Ladies fell to the Jackrabbits 5-3.

The Ladies will be back in action for a midweek game on Tuesday, March 22, in Monroe, Louisiana where Centenary will take on the University of Louisiana at Monroe beginning at 5 pm.  The Ladies will then travel back home to take on the Bears of Central Arkansas on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
